French press, pourover or Turkish coffee maker: which brewing method to choose for your home?

The taste of your morning cup depends not only on the beans you choose, but also on the way you brew them. Each device works according to its own physical laws, extracting essential oils and caffeine differently.

French press: density and density

This method is based on long-term immersion of coffee in water (immersion). The metal filter passes coffee oils and small particles, so the drink turns out to be very dense, with a tangible “body”.

  • Suitable for: Lovers of rich coffee with a classic profile (nuts, chocolate, caramel).
  • Optimal grain: Blends or 100% Arabica from Latin America medium to dark roast.
  • Grinding: Coarse (like sea salt) so that the particles do not pass through the mesh.
  • Advantages: Extremely simple, does not require special skills, you can brew several portions at once.

Pourover (V60, Chemex): purity and fruity notes

Here, the water slowly passes through ground coffee and a paper filter (percolation). The filter retains all oils and sediment, leaving the drink crystal clear, light and similar to tea.

  • Who is it for: Aesthetes who are looking for bright acidity, berry, citrus or floral shades in their coffee.
  • Optimal grain: 100% Arabica from Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya) of an exceptionally light roast.
  • Grind: Medium (like granulated sugar).
  • Advantages: Allows you to fully control the brewing process and reveals the most subtle aromatic nuances of expensive varieties.

Turk (Cezve): Eastern traditions and strength

The oldest method, where coffee is brewed with water and served in a cup without filtering. The drink is thick, with a characteristic foam, high caffeine content and intense taste.

  • Who is it for: Fans of strong morning coffee, oriental spices and those who like to add sugar or spices during brewing.
  • Optimal grain: Any blends or medium-roasted Arabica. Asian varieties are especially successful here.
  • Grind: Into “dust” (like flour).
  • Advantages: Creates a unique thick texture, goes perfectly with cardamom or cinnamon.

To find your perfect taste, you don’t have to settle for just one thing. For an energetic morning before work, a rich Turkish coffee is perfect, and for a relaxing Sunday breakfast, the meditative process of making a pourover with light Ethiopian Arabica from Dobrakava is perfect.
